Traffic delays on U.S. 60 East on Wednesday

Expect minor delays on U.S. 60 East next Wednesday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said Thursday that workers will be setting beams for a new railroad overpass at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Kentucky 144 on Wednesday, March 17.

That could cause minor traffic delays during daylight areas, the cabinet said.

The work is part of the first phase of the bypass extension project.

The cabinet said that trucks hauling bridge beams will be maneuvering into the work site between approximately 9 a.m. and 2 p.m on Wednesday.

Trucks will have to back into the job site from U.S. 60 just east of the interchange during the day, the news relase said.

The work has been scheduled to avoid peak travel times, it said.

Approximately 15,000 vehicles travel that section of highway in an average day, the cabinet said.

The first phase of the bypass extension includes a 2.3-mile, four-lane stretch from the intersection of U.S. 60/U.S. 231 and Wrights Landing Road to Hardinsburg Road and a half-mile connector route to Pleasant Valley Road.

“When completed, the bypass extension will be part of a seamless, four-lane corridor from the Audubon Parkway and the Natcher Parkway at Owensboro to Interstate 64 via U.S. 231, which is currently under construction in Indiana,” the cabinet said.

Owensboro-based Yager Materials LLC  is the prime contractor on $37.6 million highway improvement project, which includes $27.2 million in stimulus money.
