City Commission takes look at long-term plan for Moreland Park

The city is considering the long-term redesign and redevelopment of Moreland Park in the coming years that would include the addition of indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a baseball complex and the expansion of the park westward.

The proposed changes, which are still preliminary, would require the eventual demolition of the Sportscenter and Kentucky National Guard armory to make room for parking and would likely take years to implement.

When completed, the park would be renamed Veteran’s Memorial Park for the memorial that currently sits in front of the Sportscenter but would be moved to a more central location in the future.

Take a look at the plan (a PowerPoint presentation) offered to the Owensboro City Commission at a work session Tuesday and read about it in detail in Wednesday’s Messenger-Inquirer.
