Residents of Kentucky’s 2nd District heard from conservative issues advocacy group Freedom’s Watch on Monday in a series of robocalls targeting Democratic Congressional candidate David Boswell.
The automated calls claimed “Frankfort politicians like David Boswell” are doing nothing to counter the 18-cent state gasoline tax added to each gallon of gasoline. Boswell represents the 8th District in the Kentucky Senate while his competitor and fellow state senator Brett Guthrie of Bowling Green represents the 32nd District.
The state gasoline tax increased by 1.5 cents on July 1 as required by state statute. According to the American Petroleum Institute, an oil and natural gas trade association, the average state gasoline excise tax is 18.4 cents and the combined state and federal gasoline tax in Kentucky is 40.9 center per gallon, below the national average rate of 49.4 cents.
Boswell called the robocalls “underhanded tactics” and said he doesn’t have immediate plans for a response.
Here is a script of the call -
Caller: Hi. This is an emergency gas price alert from Freedom’s Watch.
Did you know Kentucky gas taxes add more than 18 cents to every gallon of gas? 18 cents!
And what are Frankfort politicians like David Boswell doing about it?
Nothing.
Call Sen. David Boswell at (502) 564-8100. Tell him to be a leader and fight to roll back Kentucky’s gas tax this summer.
If we can’t depend on David Boswell to stand up for us today, when can we count on him?
Paid for by Freedom’s Watch – (202) 379-3742.
